Lisbon is the city of choice chosen by most of the tourists who came to Portugal but if you want to take the most of your trip you have to get to know other locations around Lisbon, like Cascais village.
Cascais is a very beautiful village located 30 km away from Lisbon, the best transport you can use are the train and the bus. You can also use the car, taxi or Uber if you prefer.
Any of these options allows you to reach the Cascais village in just over 30 minutes.
If you choose to go by taxi or Uber, the trip is a little more expensive and not as fun as going by train, always next to the Tejo river.
At the end of this article, you will find a summary of all the options explained here.

How to get from Lisbon to Cascais by Train
The trip between Lisbon Airport and Cascais takes place in two phases. The first is the transfer between the airport and Cais do Sodré railway station and the second is the train journey between Cais do Sodré and Cascais village.
Lisbon Airport is the most common arrival point for those who visit Portugal and intends to stay in the center of the country, but the airport is not in the city center, it is about 7 km away.
I will show you the existing options to move to the city center and from there, to Cascais village.
At Lisbon Airport you have at least four options to go to the center that I will let you know.
1st part of the trip: Airport – Cais do Sodré
The first part of your trip is between the airport and Cais do Sodré train station. To make this route you have 4 options at your disposal.
This trip takes approximately 40 minutes and it costs € 1,50 per person plus € 0,50 for the rechargeable Viva Viagem Card if you need.
You should add the time of access to the subway and the waiting time between each train.
The subway trip is not direct, it’s done in two different lines and you will have to make a switch at Alameda station.
Duration Time: 40 minutes
Price for 1 person: € 1,50 (+ € 0,50)
This is the most common option to get from Lisbon airport to Cais do Sodré. The Aerobus City Center costs € 3,60 per person and takes 40 minutes to complete its trip, depending on the number of stops and the traffic in downtown Lisbon.
If you want to buy the round trip ticket, the cost is € 5,40 per person.
Alternatively, you can purchase the Aerobus Pass 48h which allows you to make unlimited travels on all Aerobus lines for a period of 48 hours from the first trip for € 7,20.
Duration: 40 minutes
Price for 1 person: € 3,60
In Lisbon Airport arrivals area there is a taxi rank available to take you anywhere.
You’ll have to take your place in line to get to a taxis and wait for your turn. It is a waiting period that is not expected to be very long, but it all depends on the time and the flow of passengers who want to get this means of transport.
When you get the taxi, you must ask to take you to the train station of Cais do Sodré and from there you can take the train to Cascais village.
The taxi ride between Lisbon Airport and Cais do Sodré train station should not cost more than € 25,00 and should take 30 minutes

4. Uber / Cabify
Using a private transportation system such as the Uber or Cabify it allows you to travel between Lisbon Airport and Cais do Sodré station for a slightly lower amount then the taxi.
According to the Uber estimate, using the UberX or UberGreen which is the most economical transport, the cost of the trip will be € 13,48 while a UberBlack will be € 26,35.
Using Cabify, the value of your trip will be € 24,17 to complete the route between the Airport and Cais do Sodré train station.
Duration: 30 minutes
Price for 1 person: € 13,48
These four options are the most common and certainly the ones that allow you to easily travel from the airport to the Cais do Sodré station.
In any case, you should always evaluate the advantages of each other.
In busy times, mainly during weekdays, it is difficult to drive in the city of Lisbon, and although there are special bus lanes and taxis, they are not always able to meet the schedule.
For this reason, buses or taxis can take a little longer than usual.
In the case of private transport such as Uber or Cabify, these vehicles are not allowed to run on special lanes for the bus and are subject to traffic in shared lanes.
The distance for this route is 15 km and the differences between the options indicated should not be too big, choose the one that is most suitable for you.
2nd part of the trip: Lisbon – Cascais
In Cais do Sodré train station you will have regular trips to Cascais, which at peak times depart every 12 minutes. The price of a trip is € 2,25 per person and takes approximately 40 minutes.
When you arrive in Cascais, depending on your destination, you can then take a taxi or Uber for the next trip.
How to get from Lisbon to Cascais by Car
Choosing to travel by car, you will have to make the rental in advance or at one of the rental companies available available at the airport.
Take your car, exit the airport and follow the 2nd Circular/E1 in west direction for approximately 7.5 km where you will find an exit to CRIL/A36/IC1 towards Algés/A5/Cascais.
You should then take the A5 highway and continue for the next 20km where you find the exit to Cascais Centro/Amoreira/Abuxarda.
At this point, you must continue along Av. de Sintra through the next 4km to the center of Cascais.
How to get from Lisbon to Cascais by Taxi
The trip will be the same as using a rental car, and the amount you will pay should be between € 50,00 or € 60,00.
How to get from Lisbon to Cascais using Uber or Cabify
For the trip from Lisbon to Cascais using a private vehicle like Uber or Cabify you will have to pay a little more than € 25,00 and this value is a forecast and variable according to the number of available vehicles and their demand.
The Cascais village is a place that you should visit when traveling to Portugal and you will have no difficulty in finding a way to get there.
The choices available for the trip between Lisbon and Cascais will always depend on several factors such as the time available, the number of people or the amount of luggage that you bring.
The most cheap option is using the subway and the train.
You need to get to Cais do Sodre and this is your first ride from Lisbon Airport. Next, you will need to take the train from Lisbon to Cascais.
The price for this option will be € 8.50 for two people from Lisbon to Cascais. The return trip will have the same value of € 8.50 if the destination is the Airport.
